Chasing Dreams

I think deep down, I have always been a dreamer. Admittedly, at times, I was very good at allowing my circumstances to keep me from achieving the things I wanted in life. It is difficult to always keep your dreams in the forefront especially, when the demands of life get in the way. With bills piling up, family, commitments....and especially with all the turmoil and uncertainty of today's Covid-19 world, it is difficult to dare to take the chance to believe that your dream is more than a thought or possibility and that it is worth chasing. Obstacles are inevitable. Every dreamer meets them. There is no doubt that during times like these, you will be filled with self doubt and fear, and it can be so easy to sabotage your dreams especially when so many of us are struggling to put food on the table. Sometimes, we need to modify, not extinguish. My husband is a great example. He owns restaurants. Covid is doing it's best to crush his dream, his motivation and excitement. Yet, he remains focused. His optimism fading, yet he strides on. His dreams are visually displayed in his office so that each and every day, he is reminded of them. Although his livelihood is threatened in the worst possible way, the dream is still alive and well, albeit somewhat faded, battered and bruised.

I believe that everyone has the ability to dream, but not everyone has the willingness to truly chase their dreams. Dreams are the reasons why we wake up in the morning and keep trying despite the negativity, and uncertainty of the world around us. They make life worth living. You are never too old, too young, too poor etc to live your dream. Dreams are just dreams until you decide they are going to be more. Dreams are not things to hope for. They require commitment. They are something you create and pursue every damn day. Little by little. Inch by inch. We have a tendency as humans, to lose hope after initial failures. But, take it from me, one who has failed many, many times, that failing is actually learning and is crucial in the journey of achieving dreams. There are no short cuts to success. And, it is in fact, the journey that is the most rewarding. I know from experience, that there will be times that you feel like you can't move forward. Times when you wish things could just be easier for you. Times when it would be so easy to give up. There will be set backs. More than you can imagine. But, if you are patient, persistent and accept the journey, that journey in itself becomes rewarding in and of itself.
