Change One Thing.
Do you wish you could change one thing about your body? Of all the studies we researched, when asked this question, an overwhelming amount of women all said yes - they wished they could change something about their bodies. To make the matter more concerning, the answer was almost 100% aesthetic and rarely ever related to health. Just wow.
This is definitely not a message we want to pass on to the younger generation. I think that somewhere between our childhood and adolescence, our views on our bodies change. And quite frankly how can it not? We are constantly being bombarded with messages of idealistic beauty everywhere we look by all the 'big' players, influencers, and all the fashion and over-the-counter beauty companies. All these unrealistic portrayals of how women 'should' look leaves many women (and young women) feeling they are not beautiful enough. Our boobs are never big enough, our eyelashes and nails never long enough, our wrinkles need to be erased by Botox, and the list goes on and on - it's exhausting. Why do we constantly need to 'tweak' every part of our bodies to be 'beautiful'?
What happened to simple clean beauty? The clean and natural beauty where we love our bodies for who we are? We should learn to love our wrinkles, for each one tells a story. We should learn to love our scars, as they are reminders of everything we have overcome. We should love being who we are at every stage of our lives. We are born truly beautiful in each and every way. It's time to start embracing the simple clean and natural beauty - our true beauty. I think we all need to remind ourselves to #beyourownkindofbeautiful.
Meet the Dove Self-Esteem Project.
Have you heard of Dove's Self-Esteem Project? It's a project that spans 138 countries and has helped over 19.4 million young people. Their mission? To reach 20 million more by 2020!
According to Dove, "Did you know that 6 out of 10 girls are so concerned with the way they look that they opt out of important activities? From playing sports and swimming to visiting the doctor, going to school or just offering an opinion, anxiety about their looks can keep girls from living life to the full. It’s clear something needs to be done and that's where we can help. Together with leading experts from fields including psychology, health, and body image, we've created a programme of world-class resources, many of which have been scientifically proven to significantly develop and increase body confidence and self-esteem in young people. In the 11 years since we launched the Dove Self-Esteem Project, more than 625,000 teachers have delivered a Dove self-esteem workshop and more than 1.5 million parents have engaged with our online content."
We love how Dove is changing a source of anxiety for many women to a source of confidence. If you would like to be a part of this project and do your part in spreading the new message of beauty, visit: Dove.com
